-- Over 2.5m Iranians in Iraq for Arbaeen march
Iran’s Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi said more than 2.5 million Iranians have entered Iraq to participate in the Arbaeen march. The Iranian interior minister made the remarks in a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Abdul Amir al-Shammari in Iraq’s capital, Baghdad.
Omar Adnan al-Waeli, head of the Iraqi Border Crossings Authority, said that the number of pilgrims is expected to be higher compared to previous years. Earlier on Friday, Ahmad Vahidi had visited Khosravi and Manzaria border crossings, during which he expressed appreciation to Iraqi officials for facilitating the movement of Iranian pilgrims.

Iran demands to inspect the reservoir of a dam on the Hirmand River in Afghanistan that has caused a standoff with the Taliban administration over Iran’s share of water from the river.
Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi said on Tuesday that a committee has been formed to facilitate an Iranian delegation’s visit to the dam to verify the claims by Afghan officials that the river suffers from unprecedentedly low levels of water.
-- Iran’s metals industries commit to tripling electricity output
Iran’s mining and metals sector is planning to increase its production of electricity by nearly three times within a year as part of a government program to diversify electricity supply in the country.
CEO of state-run IMIDRO, a holding company which controls Iran’s mines and metals companies, said on Monday that electricity output from the sector would reach 2.0 gigawatts (GW) in mid-summer next year, up from a current capacity of 0.6 GW.

-- FM Spokesman Sympathizes With Tajikistan Over Deaths in Flooding
The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson Nasser Kana’ani sent condolences to Tajikistan over deaths in recent floods that have ravaged the Central Asian country.
In a statement on Tuesday, Kana’ani offered his condolences to the government and people of Tajikistan over the flood fatalities. At least 13 people have been killed after heavy rains lashed central Tajikistan, the latest natural disaster to hit the mountainous Central Asia country.
-- Number of Russian Tourists Visiting Iran Surges
The number of Russian people applying to go on vacation to Iran this summer has more than doubled, Ria Novosti news agency reported on Tuesday.
Citing the data from the Russian mobile phone operator “MegaFon” on the data of Russian tourists who traveled to other countries, it said, “Iran and Saudi Arabia have become attractive destinations for Russian tourists, as the interest of Russian tourists to travel to Iran in the 2023 summer has increased by about 115% and to Saudi Arabia by 123%.”

TEHRAN – Iran’s goalball team has beaten U.S. team 7-6 at the 2023 IBSA World Games. The Iranian players defeated the U.S. 7-6, in their last game of the competition, which was held in Birmingham, England.
Team Melli stood in seventh place in the sporting event. The competition took place at the Coventry Building Society Arena in Coventry, Birmingham, England from August 20 to 27.

-- Enemy returned to negotiating table after unrest faded away: Raisi
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said Tuesday that the enemy suspended nuclear talks with Iran in the midst of the 2022 unrest in Iran but suggested a return to the negotiating table after the unrest subsided. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday morning, President Raisi said Iran didn’t leave the negotiating table but worked to diversify its foreign policy options beyond the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
In describing the results of the enemy's strategy of disappointing the people inside the country, President Raisi stated, "The enemy tried to anger the people and create problems for the country with a massive cyber attack and disabling gas stations in the very days of the beginning of the Popular Administration, but it failed with the immediate action of the government and the vigilance and exemplary support of the people".
-- ‘Iran achieves technical knowledge of improving oil products quality’
Iran has achieved the technical knowledge in the field of improving the quality of petroleum products, the managing director of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC) stated. Jalil Salari made the remarks in a ceremony for unveiling the document of the fundamental project of producing needle coke from residual fuel oils, which was held at the place of the Research Institute of Petroleum Industry (RIPI) on Tuesday.
The mentioned ceremony, which was held concurrent with the Government Week (starting on August 24), was participated by Azim Kalantari-Asal, the chairman of RIPI, Majid Rajabi, the managing director of Imam Khomeini Shazand Oil Refining Company, and a number of refining industry as well as RIPI director.
-- TOT workshops held to support Iranian students
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, has organized a series of training of trainers (TOT) workshops, to improve support services in schools across seven provinces of the country. The measure was taken in line with the recently introduced national initiative, SIRAT (Integrated System for Development and Education).
The goal is to give all students, including children with disabilities, the chance to benefit from improved support in mainstream schools and services such as early detection, timely intervention, and an effective referral system.
